Doug Fread presenting cane to Mark Oliver
Mark Oliver began his final meeting as president by warmly welcoming members, guests, and his wife Janet, expressing deep gratitude for her unwavering support throughout his term. He reflected on what he described as a whirlwind year, sharing that he had learned a great deal—not just about Rotary, but about leadership, collaboration, and the strength of the St. Marys community.
He thanked the club executive, committee chairs, and every member for their dedication, emphasizing that the club’s achievements were the result of collective effort. Mark highlighted the challenges faced and the successes celebrated together, underscoring the spirit of teamwork and service that defines the club.
A special moment in his remarks was his acknowledgment of Peter McAsh, whom he described as his “right-hand man.” Mark credited Peter for his steadfast support, organizational skills, and willingness to step up whenever needed, noting that many of the year’s accomplishments would not have been possible without Peter’s help.
Mark also thanked Janet for her patience and encouragement, recognizing the sacrifices made by family when one takes on a leadership role. He acknowledged the support and guidance of past presidents and district leaders, mentioning how their mentorship helped him navigate his responsibilities.
Mark concluded by expressing his appreciation for the friendships and memories formed during his presidency. He wished the incoming president and executive team every success, encouraging the club to continue building on its strong foundation and to remain committed to service above self.
